THE OVERVIEW ART COLLECTION

The Lebrija 1 Solar Power Plant is located in Lebrija, Spain. Solar thermal plants use mirrors to concentrate solar energy and heat oil to a temperature around 750 degrees fahrenheit. Once heated, the oil transfers its thermal energy to water, ultimately producing pressurized steam. This steam then drives a turbine, and converts mechanical energy into electricity through a generator. The facility in Lebrija is comprised of approximately 170,000 individual mirrors installed on 6,048 parabolic troughs. If placed next to one another, the troughs would extend for 37 miles.
