Levon Biss

Levon Biss is a British photographer born in London. Throughout his career Levon's work has covered a wide range of photographic genres, including portraiture, documentary and sport.  His work has been exhibited around the world his prints are housed in numerous museum and private collections.

Most recently, Levon’s passion for nature and photography have now come together to create Microsculpture, a unique photographic study of insects in mind-blowing magnification that has taken the genre of microscopy to an entirely new level.  Levon has adapted traditional macro techniques to create a photographic process that reveals the minute detail of insects in a resolution never seen before.  It has been described as a beautiful marriage between art and science.

His photographs are printed in large-scale formats, with insects that are only millimeters long being presented as 3 metre high prints.  Each image takes 3 weeks to create and are produced from over 8000 individual photographs.  A book of the Microsculpture photography is published by Abrams, with the exhibition currently on tour in Europe.  The microscopic detail in this work is also available to view online at www.microsculpture.net.

Levon's first book, One Love, took him to 28 countries to document the culture of soccer.  The project covered all levels of the game, from children playing in the mountains of Peru to professionals plying their trade at international level.   The photography from One Love also produced a touring exhibition, displayed in 17 countries over 2 years.

Biss portrait subjects included names such as Quentin Tarantino, Samuel L Jackson and Usain Bolt, with his work appearing on the covers TIME, The New York Times and GQ.   His creativity continues to be in regular demand from commercial brands and museums around the world.  In 2016 Levon was awarded with a Fellowship to the Royal Photographic Society.
